YOU'LL KNOW YOU'RE A NURSE WHEN ...

You’ll know you’re a nurse when ...

When we invited readers to complete the above sentence, in 25 words or less, we received many responses, including the following:

You’ll know you’re a nurse when ...

you’ve missed your lunch and your break and are asked, “Do you want to work over?”

Barbara Macri, Mercer, Pa.

the family of a patient says, “O good! You’re back again today.”

John Brannen, Twin Falls, Idaho

she squeezes your hand, says “Thank you” through her tears, as you cry with and share her unfulfilled hopes at the birth of her stillborn.

Miriam Eide, Columbus, Ga.

We published some of your responses in the Fourth Qtr. 2005 issue of Reflections on Nursing Leadership. We didn’t have space to include all the great material we received, so we’re planning to publish additional responses in forthcoming honor society publications.

So here’s another chance. Finish the sentence “You’ll know you’re a nurse when ...” in 35 words or less (we’ve increased the word limit), and send your entry or entries in the text area of an e-mail (not as an attachment) to: KnowNurse@STTI.org. Do not resend entries already submitted, as they will be included in the selection process. Please provide your name, city, state or province, and country.

Permission

By submitting your "You'll know you're a nurse when..." contribution, you grant Sigma Theta Tau International the right to publish your contribution along with your name, unless otherwise requested, in forthcoming honor society publications.
