Margarethe Lorensen,
RN, PhD, professor of nursing science at the University of
Oslo, Norway, died in October in Copenhagen, Denmark. The
first Danish nurse to earn a PhD, Lorensen founded the Danish
Society for Nursing Science and was integrally involved in
the early development of the European Academy of Nursing Science.
Her research contributed much to current knowledge about the
care of people with functional impairment, especially older
people.
The first professor at the Institute of Nursing Informatics
at the University of Oslo, Lorensen’s influence was
significant not only in Scandinavia, but also throughout Europe
and the rest of the world. In addition to serving as the Norwegian
representative in the International Medical Informatics Association-Special
Interest Group on Nursing Informatics, Lorensen contributed
to the development of the Danish Nurses Research Fund, was
involved in the European Work Group in Nursing Research and
was a past president of the Nordic Academy of Nursing Science.
She also served on the editorial board of the Journal
of Nursing Scholarship, published by the Honor Society
of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. |
